beautiful
This magnificent Russian Orthodox hymn is sung by an American Lutheran choir in a beautiful Catholic church in Minneapolis.
This is beautiful.
Wonderful! This version is also incredible: ua-cam.com/video/IQCb6HMqwbk/v-deo.html&start_radio=1
I used to love to conduct this...after hearing so many metronomic performances, this is such a treat.
"Stay with us, Lord Jesus. It soon is evening and night is falling. Jesus Christ, the world's true light, shines where the darkness cannot overcome it. Let your light pierce the darkness and fill the Church with its glory." AMEN!
Grew up singing this every Advent. It gets me every time. Lovely performance, and thanks for the speedy tempo!
It is beautiful. However, get back to me when you sing it in Russian. Our choir does. ,😉
Performed this piece probably a couple dozen times when I was young and sang the low bass line. This choir sounds amazing, really brought back some wonderful memories to me. Fantastic.
I am Orthodox but admire some Lutheran hymns like this! Lord have mercy on us all.
This was actually composed by a Russian composer named Pavel Tschesnokoff, but adopted by the Lutheran hymnal.
this is way too fast and too loud. Half the voice and slow it down and stagger breathing. I mean come on. this has to be true to the piece.
Who watchin in 2018
This has been possibly my favorite choral pieces. When I was in high school and college, I soared on those tenor passages. I also loved the range for all parts. What a composition!!!
The video looks a little old quality wise but that doesn’t matter becuz no matter wut, the sound is so crisp and clear, outstanding...bravo.
Yes, this is the Greatest Commandment...
Well, here it is, eight years later, and I am just discovering this precious piece of music, sung with incredible feeling by a glorious choir in a fine reverberant room. Who could want anything more? Thanks, David Cherwien and all of your singers!
Thank you also Evil Hovland
One of America's premiere choirs.such a vast repertoire.
I feel bad for the basses. D2 is already difficult to sing live, but Chesnokov just had to bring out his inner Russian badass with this piece and write down a goddamn B1...
My favorite musical prayer. Dear God heal our world of lies and violence, Help us O God. We need your truth and grace forevermore.
His Voice- wonderful, God bless URT- UoI
Simple, moving, and filled with some of the very first words spoken to the Resurrected Jesus.
Was this recorded..? Would love to download this...
Breathtakingly beautiful!
OMG I am singing this for all reagion in 3 months
"stay w/ us" very nice, but would have been better in tune---shame on the sops near the ending, but, again, you have many good pieces on the disc. lutheran choirs are unusually good and impressive.
I don’t think Jesus thought it was out of tune. Otherwise he probably would have left, but he decided to stay with us for the tater tot hot dish casserole. (A Lutheran delicacy)
My comfort by day and my song in the night, my hope, my salvation, my all.
Such a moving piece! Sung at just the right tempo! Love it!
i haven't sang this in years, but this brought back so many wonderful memories! Beautifully done!!!!
THIS is a keeper! I never conducted this one myself, and haven't heard for years, but stirred many memories. THANK YOU!
My High School concert band warmed up to this song and I always LOVED it. I played French Horn and it had the most beautiful part for French Horns!!
my high school March band warm up to this on field before a show
very Lutheran.
I'm asking as merely as a curious inquirer. What do you mean?
I think she must mean EXCELLENT!
No argument from me, John. None whatsoever. I listen to this and to the Cambridge Singers' rendition of "Abendlied" numerous times each month.
Because it makes me think of the Gospel!!!
Yes goodness....I miss this so much. I need a stage!
A wonderful choir in a gorgeous space!
Does it get more beautiful than this?
Awesome
Amazing 😩
How absolutely lovely. By far, one of the best renditions I have heard.
Love those altos!
Breathtaking! It has been years since I last performed this work. The only thing I wish the conductor would have done differently would be to pause a little longer at the cadence points. The GLORIOUS reverb in that hall lends itself to pausing and letting the sound wash over the room and the audience. Not a critique, as this is just beautifully done, only a thought. Thank you for sharing this Tlm Sheie.
Magnificent. The Robert Shaw Chorale moved an audience in Russia to tears by singing this at the end of a concert in the 1950s. Piece had been banned for 40 years.
So beautiful
Best presentation i have heard so far.
I have been listening to this for years and am still in love with it!
I love how the guy waits til five seconds before the song ends to clear his throat
As a performer, I can't think of anything I hate more than old men coughing and babies crying.
LOVE the deep Bass line!!! It just rumbles. Down there. At the bottom. It gives me goose bumps!
Beautiful
l love it.
That song is beautiful, my high school marching band warm up is this. It sounds so amazing in both the choral and band perspectives, I love it!
Kyle Barrus My kids played this in high school marching band as warm up, too. I loved it!
Just beautiful. A great presentation of choral music.
